I submitted this wedding cake as my entry into my first ever cake competition hosted by Icing Inspirations school and cake supply shoppe.  The theme for the competition was Fairy Tale Weddings.

I knew I didn't want to depict a typical fairy tale/Disney couple, so I took my inspiration from a line in the Wizard of Oz where the Tin Woodsman says to Dorothy as she's leaving Oz, "Now I know I have a heart, because it's breaking."  

This cake, influenced by the steampunk aesthetic, is what I imagined would be served at Dorothy and the Tin Woodsman's wedding.

As for the competition, the judges seemed to love the concept because I won both People's Choice and First Place in my division, and this cake was featured in the April 2013 edition of American Cake Decorating Magazine!
